Pre & Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Pre and Post-Operative Rehabilitation` is a process that not only helps to rehabilitate a patient post-surgery but also helps to prepare them physically for surgery.A Preoperative Rehabilitation programme is designed by your physical therapists to aid your body before surgery to improve the chances of a positive outcome. A Preoperative Rehabilitation programme can also help to prepare you mentally for surgery.

ACL injury is a tear or sprain of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL); one of the major ligaments in the knee. ACL injuries most commonly occur during sports that involve sudden stops or changes in direction, jumping and landing such as soccer, basketball, football and downhill skiing.

After ACL injury, regardless of whether surgery will take place or not, physiotherapy management focuses on regaining range of movement, strength, proprioception and stability. Rest Ice Compression Elevation (RICE) should be used in order to reduce swelling and pain, to attempt full range of motion and to decrease joint effusion.

Rotator cuff (shoulder injury) is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint, keeping the head of your upper arm bone firmly within the shallow socket of the shoulder.

A rotator cuff injury can cause a dull ache in the shoulder, which often worsens with use of the arm away from the body. Rotator cuff tears that affect a significant portion of the tendon cause weakness of the shoulder, limiting your ability to hold your arm out to one side or to lift an object. Difficulty using the shoulder because of pain does not always mean that there is a tear. Rotator cuff injuries cause pain in your shoulder and upper arm.
